After primary voting concluded in Missouri and Washington yesterday, the slate of state attorney general (AG) candidates is set for the November 5 general elections, where at least six new AGs will fill offices across the U.S.

  • Missouri: Current Republican AG Andrew Bailey was pitted in a primary election against Will Scharf, who was supported by Donald Trump and outspent Bailey by almost two-to-one. Nevertheless, Bailey won the Republican nomination with almost 2/3 of the Republican vote and will now face Democratic challenger Elad Gross in the general election.
  • Washington: Democrat Nick Brown and Republican Pete Serrano were the leading vote-getters and will face off to take over the position from AG Bob Ferguson who is running for governor. Brown is the former U.S. attorney for the Western District of Washington while Serrano is the mayor of Pasco, WA, and best known for establishing the Silent Majority Foundation, which focuses on overturning Washington’s gun law restrictions.

Vermont technically has a primary scheduled for August 13, but Democrat and current AG Charity Clark and Republican challenger H. Brooke Page are running unopposed for their respective parties’ nominations.

With open seats in North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Utah, Washington, and West Virginia, we will continue to provide updates in advance of the November 5 general elections.

Until then, you can check out our election tracker map for more information.
